How can I connect a TNC to a Windows 2003 Server via SMB?

Answer:

In the standard installation of the Windows 2003 Server, SMB signing is activated by default. Earlier software versions of the iTNC used an older variant of the SMB protocol, in which no SMB signing was possible yet. These older software versions therefore usually work together with Windows 2003 Server, but we cannot guarantee this. Furthermore, since this older variant of the protocol had its problems, it became necessary for the iTNC to migrate to a newer variant of the protocol. Unfortunately, Microsoft introduced SMB signing with Windows 2003 Server without considering any (non-Microsoft) devices that do not support this procedure.

There are two possibilities for connecting a TNC to a Windows 2003 Server nevertheless:

1. You deactivate SMB signing at the server. Proceed as follows:

> Group Policy

> Computer Configuration

> Windows Settings

> Security Settings

> Disable SMB signing

2. You put a Linux computer with Samba into operation, which connects the directories relevant to the iTNC via a network (with SMB signing), and releases them as SMB shares (without SMB signing). That way, SMB signing would only be deactivated for the directories needed by the iTNC.
