Interpolation turning and milling on the TNC 640

With its Cycles 291 and 292, the TNC 640 provides the operator with an easy way to program interpolation turning and milling operations directly on the control. Whereas interpolation turning using a coupled spindle and turning tool is employed mainly in the fields of flange machining, sealing surface manufacturing, and container construction, working without a coupled spindle is a universally implementable way to machine rotationally symmetric contours.

With the help of a contour definition in the XZ plane, the contour can be machined efficiently in a 3-D spiral path. The TNC also supports a wide variety of tools for this process by taking each tool’s corner radius into account.
