Digital Shop Floor software solutions

Manufacturers using CNC machine tools stand to benefit from our software products for digital shop floors. These solutions support users throughout their process chain from planning and machine setup to production monitoring and analysis. With our software options, users can adapt their CNC machine to their ever-evolving needs. At the same time, our machine data collection software provides a clear picture of the machine-related process chain, regardless of the control or machine manufacturer and without the need for cloud computing.

PC software

Programming stations for milling and lathe controls

Our programming station is an application for PCs equipped with the Windows operating systems. The software offers you the same TNC user interface and graphical support as the control on your machine, enabling the creation, testing, and optimization of programs away from the machine. It is therefore an effective way to prevent machine standstill. And because the programming station keyboard is based on the real-world keyboard on the machine, transitioning between the two is easy.

Realistic simulation for reliable production processes

A Digital Twin from HEIDENHAIN makes it possible to perform virtual machining on your back-office programming station as if you were standing at the machine tool. As a result, setup and testing times are shortened, while process reliability and productivity are increased. And it’s easy to obtain a Digital Twin from HEIDENHAIN.

A HEIDENHAIN programming station with a Digital Twin offers many benefits. To increase the speed and reliability of your productivity, the Digital Twin can be used to prepare and validate before machining:

  • Check and optimize tool paths
  • Prevent program interruptions
  • Avoid collisions
  • Make full use of the work envelope
  • Test complex 5-axis movements
  • Check and optimize the clamping position

But the Digital Twin does more than help you create a validated NC program. It also helps you with quoting and job planning, allowing you to determine the exact machining times, costs, and schedules.

Software components for creating PC-based applications for TNC controls

Numerical controls from HEIDENHAIN have always had interfaces for communicating with external systems. Current models are equipped with two Ethernet ports as a standard feature. Via an adapter, one of the USB ports on the HEIDENHAIN control can be used as an additional network interface. The functions of Connected Machining enable the use of these interfaces to seamlessly integrate the control into your digital production process. With the following communication services included in Connected Machining, a HEIDENHAIN control can be remotely operated over a TCP/IP network:

  • HEIDENHAIN DNC
  • Process Tracking Interface
  • HEIDENHAIN OPC UA NC Server

Two other features of Connected Machining are available exclusively for HEIDENHAIN programming stations:

  • virtualTNC
  • JHIOsim

RemoTools SDK
The RemoTools Software Development Kit (RemoTools SDK) contains client libraries with examples and documentation for using the Connected Machining communication services.

Collect, analyze, and visualize machine data with StateMonitor

The StateMonitor software helps you optimize your production workflows by delivering real-time insight into your machining processes. StateMonitor records machine data, is control-agnostic, and offers numerous detailed analyses. Its messenger function allows you to send emails at predefined events, such as machine standstill, low coolant levels, or the end of a program. The software’s functionality can be expanded as needed with various software options.

Visual Tool Check

Automated and AI-supported tool-wear measurement

The VT 122 camera for tool measurement, combined with the Visual Tool Check software, enables AI-based wear measurement, thereby automating otherwise manual processes. This system helps users save time when performing tool monitoring, rapidly providing reliable data about the condition of tools in the machine. Automated process documentation is integrated into the machining process, benefiting industries such as aerospace and medical tech.

Users can easily control the wear measurement process using VTC cycles. The NC control slowly rotates the tool directly in front of the camera. The result is a panoramic image of the tool that includes all its cutting edges. Based on these images, Visual Tool Check automatically determines the amount of flank wear. The AI-supported results are shown in a clear format. Each flute is analyzed individually, with both the maximum and average values shown and automatically stored. Users can also define individual warning values, set tool-disabling thresholds, visualize changes in tool wear, and export this information to CSV files for further analysis.

JHIOsim
Simulate machine motion and machining times with high accuracy

JHIOsim is an interface that makes it possible to simulate machine software on a programming station. Initial setup of the machine becomes faster and more efficient. Machine components such as tool-changer doors, chip conveyors, and hydraulic monitoring sensors are realistically simulated, even before the machine is built. JHIOsim thus facilitates early virtual setup and increases the quality of your PLC software. Users can also run automated regression tests, shorten development times, and minimize errors. JHIOsim is your smart solution for faster and more reliable machine development.

Software options

Companies wishing to digitally network their manufacturing environment need effective technology with an assured future. Discover the HEIDENHAIN OPC UA NC Server, which provides HEIDENHAIN controls with an interface based on the OPC UA standard. This internationally standardized and widespread communication protocol makes it fast and easy to connect machines to your production IT network.</p><p>The HEIDENHAIN Connection Assistant simplifies the process of setting up a certificate-supported connection. Through the authentication, authorization and encryption of all communication, the product’s security standard meets the recommendations of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).

The OPC UA NC Server lets you connect applications to the control that have been programmed in various operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

The HEIDENHAIN DNC software option allows a Windows application to access and change data on the CNC control.

This component is integrated directly into the development environment, making it available for creating customized applications. Any COM-capable programming language (such as C++, C#, or VB.NET) can be used for application development.

Because HEIDENHAIN DNC has been around for many years, the interface is also well-suited for connecting older machine tools.

Benefits

  • Improve process reliability and machine availability
  • Plan preventive maintenance
  • Connect error notification systems (including for mobile devices)
  • Provide notification about the current machine and production status
  • Log and document the machine history

The fully-integrated process monitoring capability of the TNC7 is a unique feature for making production processes safer and more reliable. Process monitoring entails the recording of one or more reference machining operations. During subsequent operations, the control monitors the process and can react to deviations in a timely manner. For example, if there is a disturbance in the process, the machine can be stopped and the tool disabled. In conjunction with pallet machining, the next workpiece can automatically be started with a replacement tool. Despite the interruption, the machine tool remains productive, and no manual intervention is necessary. The Process Monitoring software option uses signals from within the control and does not require any additional sensors.

The Remote Desktop Manager connects a PC to the user interface of the TNC control. Operating the connected PC on the TNC is easy. Toggling between the control’s screen and the PC interface occurs at the push of a button. The possible applications range from centralized job, tool, and NC program management to the remote operation of CAD/CAM systems from the machine. With this option, the machine tool operating panel becomes a versatile and efficient workspace for tasks ranging from specialized manufacturing processes to decentralized order processing

Organizing and fine-tuning job sequences on the machine

Batch Process Manager is a powerful function for pallet machining and serial production. With its intuitive user interface, you can plan your production process and receive important information about upcoming machining operations. Batch Process Manager makes it possible to easily change the sequence of upcoming jobs. It also performs a duration calculation for all planned jobs or NC programs. For example, the function checks whether all NC programs will be able to run without error and whether all necessary tools are available with sufficient remaining service life. Batch Process Manager displays the results of these checks in the status overview. Batch Process Manager thereby ensures the smooth execution of the planned jobs.
